W2KZ Antenna Party, Minus SteppIR

Well, it was an interesting morning at W2KZ's.  The crew included: W2KZ, KN2M, WB2AIV, W2KKZ, W2MFT, N2ENM, W2NK, W2YJ, and K2ZR. Murphy also showed up for a few minutes on the tower but we beat him up a bit and sent him packing. There's good news and bad news..... The bad news is that Dave found some broken rivets and problems with some of the brace bars in the upper section.  He wasn't able to climb to the top of the tower so the old KT-34A beam couldn't be removed nor the SteppIR put up. The good news (and there really is a lot of it) is: No one got hurt!! (outside of a little bit of sunburn!) The predicted rain turned out to be cloudless blue skies! We didn't break anything (as far as I know)! After discovering that we couldn't remove the old beam Dave cut the coax and inserted a connector to test the beam and coax.  The 'failure' of the KT-34A was traced to the old coax.  We then switched the new coax for the SteppIR to the KT-34A.  Success!  When connected to the radio, he's getting a 1.5:1 SWR with 100w out. We also installed a 40m dipole and it is also working well. Before we left we had a pow-wow (politically incorrect term - insensitive to Native American sensibilities) and determined a possible path forward for repairing the tower and switching the beams.  Meanwhile, Don is back on the air on 40, 20, 15, & 10.

WS2G Antenna Party

Another antenna party took place at WS2G’s QTH in late November. Your webmaster has no report on the actual attendees other than WS2G himself. The nature of the party is likewise unknown. But the photos are surely nice!

WB2RAJ Antenna Party Meets Success!

Kash (WB2RAJ, in the tan hat) needed a small amount of antenna work. So, who better to call than the WNYDXA Antenna Raiders. Bill (K2LNU) handled the wood pole while John (WB2EPH- in the white tee shirt), and Bill (WB2AIV- with the hat) are on the tower. A surgical strike on a beautiful fall day resulted in Kash being back in business, the DX-business that is!

W2YJ Gets Help with SteppIR Beam

DSC00332
Well, my SteppIR beam driven element motor assembly bit the dust. Bob KKZ gave me his old SteppIR motor assembly that had a cracked housing. I was able to resurrect it with screws and Plexiglas and silicone cement and Bill, AIV, helped me change the bad Motor assembly for the cobbled together motor assembly that works fine.
